This week blog will answer question from the text book: A Practical Guide to Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux by Mark G. Sobell (2008)
1.) Regarding Konqueror the file manager:
a. What is Konqueror?
- Konqueror is a file manager and browser. It supports basic file management on local UNIX/LINUX file systems, from simple cut/copy and paste operations to advanced
remote and local network file browsing. It is more powerful than Windows Explorer.
b. List four things you can do with Konqueror.
-1. Manage files
- 2. Browse the internet
- 3. Program executor/runner.
- 4. Use different Tool Bars and customized Book Marks.
c. How do you use Konqueror to search for s file?
-Use the kfinder. Konqueror Menu bar: Tools then find file
2.) What is a Terminal emulator? What does it allow you to do from a GUI that you would not be able to do with out one?
A terminal emulator is a textual character base window that is opened in a graphical environment. So you would not be able to run character bases programs with out an emulator terminal.
3.) What is klipper? How do you use it to cut and paste text?
klipper is the clipboard utility. The Cut - and - paster. The program should open as default. If not enter klipper the the Main menu run commander. Just High light your text and push the (k) klipper symbol or press CONTROL-ALT-V.
- Nautilus is another file manger.
b. List two was that you can open a file using Nautilus?
- 1. Spatial
- 2. Traditional
c. How does Nautilus "know" which program to use to open different types of files?
- Nautilus uses the GNOME.
d. What are the three commonly used Nautilus control bars? What kinds of tools do you find on each?
- 1. Menu Bar. A drop down menu determined by the what the view pain is displayed.
- 2. Tool Bar. This is the Navigational bar. Lets you go Home, Forward, Back, Reload and perform searches.
- 3 Location Bar. This is the Path name and directories. Plus the View pane.
